Expanding trade of Cambodian-grown horticultural products

USDA Food for Progress HortSafe Cambodia

The U.S. Department of Agriculture Food for Progress Cambodia HortSafe project will expand trade of Cambodian-grown horticultural products domestically and internationally through improvements to Cambodia’s food safety control system. HortSafe will increase food safety compliance through the prioritization and development of science and risk-based technical regulations and standards, finalization of the national Food Safety Policy, and support for implementation of risk-based inspections. Through a national laboratory development strategy and the technical assistance, HortSafe will assist in the development of a network of accredited food safety laboratories that can meet current demand for testing services. HortSafe will establish a $1.4M Safe Food Investment Grant Facility to catalyze investment for improved post-harvest handling, processing, cold chain and compliance to food safety standards. The project will also increase food safety awareness and compliance within the tourism industry, a key market for Cambodian horticultural producers.
